But then surely the content you want won't scroll into view...

but then that means you DO want the window to scroll, but you want it to scroll to the exact position your currently at.
cant that be done using position fixed of some sort?
but i'm just making draft ideas based on a logical chain.

Bookmark links always try to go to the top of the screen if they can.
The same with :target links. No amount of absolute positioning will stop this.

The only way to have the 'bookmark' content appear below the top of the screen is to apply top padding betwen the #link and the content.

that was pretty much the idea stu, to just move it into place using margin-top and cheat your way out. :P

I'm going to give some more thought into this, there is probably some workaround here (that has unreasonable drawbacks)

    Hello!

This is my second attempt to post here. Yesterday I tried to post the Hanoi Towers thing, but the forum needs 5 posts without links to allow links. It deleted my posts so I stopped my attempt of posting.

    I hope today this works.

Oh, I read bad the topic, and I thought it was something like "do a game with css" instead of "do an animation with css". I got the confusion because of the maze games examples on it. When I found out it was about crazy animations, the game was already done...

About animations, I've done some few things more after the Coke Can, some are at Ajaxian and some are at my blog, but I can't publish links...

By now I think I'm not going to do more CSS animations based in displacement maps at least for a while. I'm currently working on a little 3D Javascript lib and then I might try some CSS3.

Well, in fact, I don't like so much to do things in CSS3. CSS3 is really cool and it is going to replace Flash and/or Javascript based animations in a lot of cases, but there is a very long way yet until it is mainstream - and a W3C recommendation. I prefer crossbrowser things.

But it looks that CSS3 experiments are the trend now, so... I suppose I should try to do some few things

Oh, I have to say that I'm not really a forums fan, so I will try to check the forum time to time, but I'm not sure on how often. If you want me to write here for some reason at any moment, feel free to contact me from my website contactform or my twitter account.

    Welcome to the forums, Roman!

You can post links by removing the http//: stuff and writing dot instead of the actual dots. We can then re-post the links for you. Please don't hold back!

    Hi Roman Cortes
thanks for joining us (not the forum, but specifically us)

yes, the link deletion can be a pain, its there to protect against spammers (specifically CSRF), and so far there are very few (or none?) attacks on this forum.

About animations, I've done some few things more after the Coke Can, some are at Ajaxian and some are at my blog, but I can't publish links...
I have already looked at every one of them
but either way ralph.m told the way to post links

you don't need to worry about posting or actively participating, the purpose why I threw out the idea of getting you to join this forum is so that more CSS minds are combined into one place, no matter what place it is.

like for example thanks to the original idea by drjochum that he posted in this topic, and the coke can you made, stu was able to make the duff coke cans that move, (correct me if im wrong stu) and others had also got new ideas.

i just believe that lots of brains are better than one, and considering that Paul (the guy starting these threads and moderating them) is unbelievably nice, this place seems ideal for such brainstorms.

Yes welcome Roman - It's nice that you popped in and I understand forums may not be your thing but thanks for posting anyway. We love your demos

There is a post limit before links are allowed but I believe it's only about 5 posts and is there to discourage spammers etc.

As Timo said we are just throwing ideas out and exploring what can be done as there is always something new to be done with CSS.

We don't usually do CSS3 either because as you say there is a long way to go before it becomes mainstream and we like to do things the hard way.

Although this thread said animations, I did also means puzzles also and anything interactive to some degree.

Whenever a new quiz is posted I add a post to the current thread so if you are subscribed here you will see the new quiz if it interests you or not.

We do have a list of archived quizzes here which you may find fun to see how they evolve. Some are simple, some are outdated, some are complex and some are just for fun

Thanks for the link, Paul, those are brilliant.

The world leaders one is my favourite, it's fantastic. Very clever use of CSS, without needing redundant HTML or even a smattering of JavaScript.

Interesting how having Javascript off in the browser has no problems, but NoScript shows the xml file as plain text.

It must be that NoScript disables XSLT as well. ( http://files.myopera.com/FataL/pres/pres.xsl )

Ok - one last silly puzzle

This was about 15 minutes work.

Solve it if you can without peeking at the code.

There is no logic to it but it does have a logical solution.

You need to find the correct sequence of numbers to solve it like a numbered padlock.

I should have spent more than 20 minutes on it (there are a lot of repeats)

    Big Clue:

Just click from 1 to 9

Perhaps it was too much of a clue

Here's a CSS calculator based on the same concept as above.

I solved it without any help (heh heh, I was about to give up but had one more "no brainer" stab at it) but I think my brain will overheat if I try to figure out how it works.

Well done Ralph - I didn't actually think anyone would solve it as there is not much logic to it.
