    PHP vs. C++

    This is a fun debate over on /.

    http://developers.slashdot.org/story...book?art_pos=6

    Synopsis, author without clue makes ludicrous claims about the viability of replacing PHP with C++ on Facebook. Gets shot down, hard, several times in the thread. Quite entertaining. Try not to grit your teeth too hard at the anonymous coward halfway down the page that claims that good PHP programmers don't exist.

    The debate, which gets rather heated at times, is not worth having to begin with. PHP and C++ have their places in programming arena. Each solves problems in different ways. For example, PHP cannot be used to solve what C++ is used for. One cannot replace the other. It is a ridiculous argument.

    Gotta agree with you, Rageh. It's like comparing apples to Shinto shrines. Or pit bulls.

    I find C++ an excellent language for creating desktop applications and PHP similarly good for creating web applications.

    I guess this is the final step to debate. there is nothing left to ask, and to answer. Same content. Same questions, same answers, same solutions.

    I can think of a couple of reasons:

    • People are lazy and don't know how to look
    • Things might have changed since a conversation a few years ago
    • People discussing it today may bring other ideas than those from different people previously
