    Question Link on Desktop with icon

    Not 100% sure this is the right section of the forum, but this is HTML so guessing it's right.

    OK, my boss at work wants a link to be sent out to loads of agencies. He wants it to be on their Windows desktop (most probably Windows XP) and for it to have an icon.

    I originally thought this would be simple and just be the shortcut icon in the code, but it turns out this isn't working. It just shows the default browser icon instead. It would also have to link to an icon on a site rather than it being on the desktop as it's going to be on hundreds of PC's

    This is the code at the moment for the html file that will be on the desktop

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

    <html lang="en">

    	<head>
    		   <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    		   <title>SOS > Search Office Space - Agents Referrals</title>
    		   <link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://77pixels.com/clients/sos/sos-ref2.ico">
    	</head>

    	<body>
    		<script type="text/javascript">
    		<!--
    		  window.location = "http://www.sitename.com/refferrals.html/"
    		//-->
    		</script>
    	</body>
    </html>
    I need this asap so any help would be VERY welcomed and grateful.

    i havent tested it

    but you can create a file in flash and put the information in that file and export it as projector file (exe file) if you dont want to send it as html file.

    It depends on the browser and cache to whether your favicon will appear in the desktop link, some browsers will show it (notably Internet Explorer) however others (like Chrome) won't. The best method of achieving it I can think of would be to create a shortcut on the desktop to the URL, and then manually set the icon to the favicon URL in properties, I am not entirely sure if it will work but it's the cleanest method I can think of (hope it helps).
