If I am gonna start a new, simple e-commerce site for selling digital goods, do I really need SSL or just the setting up of a Paypal link will be enough? I intend to get paid only on Paypal, hence is SSL important in this case?
As you can't install it onto the payment page since that page is not on your site there is little point in getting one unless you have one of the Paypal accounts that allows customisation of the payment page to make it look more like your site and you are including images - in which case you need the certificate for the images.
wdp, while that is true, the transaction of the sale WOULD be encrypted with a certificate therefore the transaction would be seen as secure. In fact, a transaction from somewhere like PayPal would probably look more secure than something on a random website
've heard complaints from people who have used PayPal and recieved bill's in the region of £50 for using the service.
Ive bought about eight items from EBay and paid every time with PayPal and have incurred no extra charges. Do these bills only appear if the amounts become significant?
Interesting what tokmik said. I have never heard of any extra bills for using paypal services. It must be the seller's decision to slap an extra bill for higher amounts as they get charged by paypal, hence seller's may want to recover what they pay to paypal, which I think is not fair unless that has been stated before the buyer purchased the goods.
