Is Stored Procedures still beneficial these days?

I was wondering if stored procedures are still beneficial to use these days considering that the latest versions of MySQL are quite fast even in a heavily traffic websites?

Some say that stored procedures are only good on old version of mysql.

Let me know your thoughts.

the article's author doesn't like stored procedures, but it is a philosophical issue, and not a problem with stored procedures per se or their performance
