    Auto-opening a CD

    I want to place a website-folder on a CD and have it automatically begin opening when placed into a computer.

    Does someone have a file I can place on the disk that will automatically find and open the index.htm file?

    I also want to place multiple website-folders on a disk and have a menu automatically come-up and thereby allow the user to select/start a website as a demo.

    In advance,

    Thanks,

    Elton

    Well its been a while since I have done this but I believe the following will work:

    Open notepad and type and save the following as "autorun.ini":

    Code:
    [autorun]
    ShellExecute=index.htm
    Place that in the root of your CD. That will open index.htm on the users machine. As far as using a menu system so a user can select a particular demo, why not make the menu in HTML and save it as index.htm

    Then the user can select which demo to open from that page where you link to a demo using normal methods, i.e. a link with:
    <a href="/demo_1/index.htm"</a> &
    <a href="/demo_2/index.htm"</a> etc etc

    Does that make sense?

    Glen:

    I tried it with no success.

    When I placed it on the CD together with a folder, it kept trying to start and stop.

    Then, I placed the contents of the folder - including the index.htm - on the CD together with the autorun, but, still no luck.

    Any other ideas?

    Whoops. I just spotted the flaw in my otherwise seamless plan. Sorry, its autorun.inf not ini. My mistake

    If that doesnt work try:

    Code:
    [autorun]
    OPEN="index.html"
    Good luck and apologies for my mistake earlier.

    I have downloaded a file that do the similar task, but the file is not with me now. I have a search on Yahoo/Google, here is the search result (many results, have a look): http://google.yahoo.com/bin/query?p=...html&hc=0&hs=0

    1. Open Notepad.
    2. Type the following line: Start %1
    3. Save it as ShellExecute.bat
    4. Close File
    5. Create New Text File
    6. Type the following:
    [AutoRun]
    OPEN=ShellExecute.bat index.htm

    7. Save it as: AUTORUN.INF
    8. Place these two files onto a CD.
    9. Enjoy.
