How Much Does The Surrouding Text Of Backlink Affect Rankings?

If someone links to my site from theirs with the anchor text Fruit juice, how much more value will Google give that link if the page linking to mine has the phrase fruit juice a lot, i.e. not just the anchor text linking to my site but also the normal copy, the URL, the alt text etc. etc.?

The context of the link matters a great deal.

On the subject of links, you do know that search engines can't see your sig links on Sitepoint?

The search engines look at what the two pages are about and value the link far more if their topics are related. It is probably a lot more complex than number of occurrences of keywords though.

    Agree with Stephen.
The relevance of the two sites matters.

I think that niche relevancy is much more important, it doesn't matter whatever context of anchor text or direct links you used as long as your site has a relevancy to your link exchange partners, google gives a lot of credit to that.

Topical relevancy is good in search engines point of view and many search engines will give weightage to those links that comes from relevant pages
