Help with XAMPP-PhpMyAdmin

Ive been using xampp on my PC for quite sometime,
but recently the database aspect stopped working.when
i try to run phpmyadmin, i get the following error:
MySQL said:
#2003 - The server is not responding
Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

Ive unistalled and re-installed,still the same.
What could be the problem and the solution.

It may possibly be your firewall settings, or you may try unticking the Svc box in the control panel and then starting MySQL to see if you can get a better error message.
