    Problems with header graphics

    I am still fairly new to CSS but am getting better with practice. I am having problems with my header and menu backgrounds. I understand that most new monitors have a resolution of a minimum of 1024x768 and I am trying to set the header and menu backgrounds so that if the browser is minimized to where a bottom scroll bar appears, the user can scroll to the right and the backgrounds will not cut off. You can see my code at http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/jerry-lee/index1.html and http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/jerry-.../jerry-lee.css. I am also using a Pop Menu Magic horizontal nav bar. I have a wrapper created so that the menu stays in place when the browser is expanded or contracted. I also want the top logo to stay in place as well. Please help me get this to work correctly. Thanks.

    Since my client is using a monitor with a resolution of 1024x768 I had to adjust my widescreen display on my laptop to the same. I had to change code to a max of 775 width to get rid of the bottom scroll bar in IE7. I really need help adjusting this properly so it doesn't look so bad. I normally keep my 17" widescreen display at 1920x1200 so now it really looks bad! Please help me fix this!

    Well since I am not getting an answer I have decided to start over again. I am combining the header background graphic with the menu background graphic and calling it all header. The nav will be contained in the header section. I hope this works the way I want it to.

    Hi, for one thing you can't put styles in the body of a page, even if they are in conditional comments.

    And anyway, about the background question. That's just the way CSS works. If you don't specify a width (or you give width:100&#37 on an element with a background it will only be as wide as the viewport and the extra scrolling space will be greater then 100%

    Hi,

    Do you have a current link of where you are at now so we can see what needs to be done.

    Also be a bit more specific on what you need help with in this new code rather than to say nothing is working (as I guess things have changed since your first post).

    Here is the link to the original way I had it. http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/jerry-..._1/index1.html. I need the header to go all the way across the top as well as the nav bar background image and main bg image. When I uploaded it all I see is my HTML...it is not reading the CSS at all now. I have checked my code and I cannot find any errors. I am really going nuts trying to figure out what I did incorrectly. The original problem was trying to get the header and nav bar images to go all the way across in any resolution and browser and when the browser is contracted all the mentioned above and the actual nav needs to stay put. What was happening was the nav was wrapping down to the next line and the header and nav bar were not extending all the way. They were cutting off. I hope this helps with trying to figure out how to fix this.

    Hi, I went to where your CSS files are being linked to
    http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/jerry-...jerry-lee1.css
    http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/jerry-...7pm/p7pmh0.css

    Your first CSS link is broken. Make sure the file paths are correct.

    I saw that too and have corrected it. Still nothing showing from the CSS page. What else could I have forgotten? Sorry I have been working on this for a couple of days and maybe my old eyes just need some help from new fresh eyes.

    Hi,

    The CSS file is still missing. Where have you hidden it?

    ok now I see the problem. I named it incorrectly....see I told you I just needed some new eyes to look at it. Now some of the images are showing up but they are not correct. Now I need help in putting everything in proper order.

    I have fixed some things and it is looking better. I still get the problem of no background when I contract the browser to get a bottom scroll bar and scroll all the way to the right. Also I can't get the 2 images on the bottom to be above the footer text. They should be floated right but above the footer text. The link is the same...foxdenwebsolutions.com/jerry-lee/site_1/index1.html.

    Since I have a widescreen monitor I had my daughter test on her laptop (15" display at 1024x768. She is not getting a scroll bar when the browser is at full screen.

    Just repeat the header graphic in the inner element also so that there is always a background at the 955px width. (Do the same for the menu also)

    e.g.

    Code:

    #header_wrapper {margin: auto; padding: 0; height: 200px; background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-position: top center;}
    #header_container {margin: auto; padding: 0; width: 955px; height: 200px; background-image: url(../images/header_bg.jpg); background-repeat: repeat-x; background-position: top center; }

    #menu  {
        background-image: url(../images/navbar_bg.jpg);
        background-repeat: repeat-x;
        height: 81px;
          }

    #menu_wrapper {;margin: auto; padding: 0; height: 81px; }
    #menu_container {margin: auto; padding: 0; height: 81px; width: 955px;
    background-image: url(../images/navbar_bg.jpg);
    background-repeat: repeat-x;}

    If you want the footer underneath the floated logos then clear it.

    e.g.
    Code:
    #footer{clear:both}

    Thank you very much, Paul. This worked. I will remember this trick from now on!
