Why is domain available in Register.com but nowhere else?
Hi All
I checked a domain name and found out it was not available. I then wanted to find out who owns it so I done the usual whois stuff and nothing came up on it, I kept trying different whois sites and ended up with one of the sites saying its available - Buy Now. It pointed to register.com. I went to register.com and it was available but at $35.95
Thanks for the reply, how comes he's offering for 1 year @ $35, 2 years @ 6!
and 3years @ $99. Does that mean if i buy it for one year that i dont own it and cant renew it next year $10 which is what i usually pay.
And how come none of he's details come up anywhere, not even the host registrar comes up on a whois or how long its registered for and when it expires?
Yep, some of these registrars have some quasi shady tactics to get folks to register with them or re-register with them. I have seen some places put the domain in holding pattern and try to sell it back to your for a higher rate than normal registration. You won't see this at godaddy.com but this has become a common practice at many registrars.
It might be on deletion process, if that's a valuable domain name, register it there and later you can transfer to other registrar which will save you cost while renewing.
Some where I read the complaint about register.com long time ago about this issue but just now I found this complaint through web search. http://alturl.com/j673
I think what stephen has said is exactly the correct thing.. It might be a sell off from the owner who actually owns it and that's what you got end up in the register.com page.
