Unhappy lost network adaptors win 2000 prof

well a server crashed and I needed a new hard drive - got that installed, loaded on the win 2000 professional OS and now I am trying to get it connection to my network.

But I don't seem to have any Dlink details? or network adaptors?

Basically right click on my computer and tab to hardware click on device manager - there is where I should see network adaptors and all I get is
    ?other deviced
    ? ethernet controller

both with large yellow question marks on them...

As I SO don't know what I am doing and its a client computer does anyone have any ideas I presume I need to install some Dlink software or whatever but where would I find that?

    Thanks

the yellow question marks mean the drivers for those 'hardware' has not been installed or is not good enough for the hardware to function properly with win2k prof.

i suggest you go to dlink's website and look for product updates.

ps: if you bought the dlink adapter , you should have the drivers.

this prob is easily fixed...you only need to get the right drivers

edit : find the drivers here : http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

u sure you have a dlink ethernet controller?

well I went through all the disks and no drivers found - I have found an old D-link drivers disk but that doesn't seem to work.

The website link is good but how do I find out what D-link type I have?

As to whether I definitly have a d-link - um the rest of my network has them and this used to work on my network? is that enough to assume that I have one?

The machine isn't ours bought buy customers and we just host the site and email client from it - so no I didn't actually buy the d-link myself

I might look at ringing the people that bought the computer to see if they know what device they put in??

    thanks for the help though

you could always open up the case and have a peak in there to see if the network card has some manufacturer logo/brandname/serial-nr/product-nr...
if not, you could try installing just a "generic" network driver...

Sarah, you can assume that you've got a dlink too....seems like a fair bet to me.

Also, have you tried the "let windows looks for the drivers automatically"?

if you got a win 2k pro disc, pop it in and see if windows can find the drivers on that disc [I'm pretty sure this should work]. Choose the "update driver" option from device manager.

Else, just phone the owner of the comp and find out about which ethernet card he/she bought.

finding which card u using, i cant think from top of my head right now...4 am here.

    hope this helped though.

asT - yep rang them they are hopefully getting back to me with details. Tried every single disk I have in work at present and none have the correct drivers?!?

redux - not sure I am brave enough to do that this was "supposed" to be a fairly simple job for a novice like me - yeah right

Anyway hopefully getting the right drivers will help and then I can get the server set up !

Thanks will let you know I get on

Be brave Sarah! Open the case, unscrew the card and gently pull it out

heh, sorry, CCD number, it's written somewhere on the actual card itself, but since you didn't need to open it up it doesn't matter
