    CSS through PHP

Ok I'm just sure if this would be feasable (I'm not exactley a php guru):

What I wanted to do is through my cms is to edit a style sheet through adding variables on the stylesheet. Of course you can't do that if you are going to link to it (the suffix has to be .css), so what I figured I could do is write my style sheet in a php file, then in my sites header just use an include and include the php file inside style tags.

Would this work?, and if it did, would it cause any major speed issues or anything?

    Thanks in advance.

It would work alright. Because the data would be parsed into that particular area of the page, the browser would receive it as one document (such is the nature of parsed documents). That should work just fine.
