    OMG!

I just saw the reference in Nadia's signature and searched to find this thread. So shocked/stunned...

Dan was my first "friend" here on SP and I (like many many others) learnt so much from him - not just in knowledge - but from his kind supportive nature.

    He will be missed.

I've been away from the forums myself for a while, and just heard the news. I'm shocked and indeed saddened to hear the news of his passing. I really don't know what to say.

My prayers go out for his family, especially his brother, as they lost their mom this past summer. He was a great guy, one who looked to help many, and will be sorely missed here.

Very sad news. Even if I'm not an active member, I did notice Dan was a kind helping guy. He even PMed me once offering free help on coding a design I did for a contest when he saw I was losing it because I couldn't code and he liked the design.

    You'll be missed Dan.

Dan also helped teach me about "clean, minimal code." I'm shocked to see he passed away.

He was also an enthusiastic Cubs fan, so say Hi to Harry if you get a chance:

So, so glad I made the time to take Dan out for dinner at Lou Malnati's when I was in Chi-town this past July.

Wow... I haven't been on SP for sometime, and the day I drop by, I see this.

The very first time I tried to learn CSS, it was Dan who helped me out (and I only have 3 friends on my SP profile, Dan being one of them).

    So sad. So very sad.

Mark me down as yet another person that Dan went out of his way to help. You could tell that he truly believed in the things he advocated because of the tenacity with which he defended his views. I didn't know Dan personally, but its not hard to tell what a great guy he was.

    RIP Dan.

I just joined SitePoint, but knew Dan from other SEO forums online. We were about to start working on a project together when he went MIA for a couple of weeks. We exchanged a few PMs and then I saw a post from Nigel on DP when he passed.

His passing was a loss for the entire online webmastering/SEO community... SitePoint was just one of MANY points of contact where people met Dan online and were touched by his generosity and blessed with him sharing his knowledge.

He'll truly be missed by ALL who knew him.

    Unhappy

Well i've just come back (infact a few days ago) pottering around before actually start joining in the forum again due to some websites I am working on and I have found this very sad news indeed.

I only noticed just by chance by looking at a members signature. Even then I thought could this be true. Sadly it is true and i'm very saddened to what has happend and my sincere condolences goes towards his family.

    Dan...

You will never know the impact that you have had on my development as a web designer/developer. I feel like I have lost a great mentor, because not only did you help me directly and personally, but reading your responses to others helped so greatly. The thing that struck me about you though was your patience. You would answer the "dumbest" questions without having to put the other person down, and this is a sign of a truly beautiful and amazing person.

Something I would like to do here -in honour of Dan, and the fact that we didn't get to tell him how much he meant to us, and the sheer depth of the help he provided so many on here- is say thank you to those others who have helped me out over the journey. I didn't get to say this to Dan, and it's something I wouldn't like to have happen again. So here goes...

Firstly, Tommy Olsen and Paul O'Brien... Your contributions to some of my posts have helped to clear up so many things that I was unsure of. Then there is your literary work. Thank you guys so much.

Centauri, Holmescreek and Erik J... you guys have always responded to my questions and comments with patience. Your encouragement has always been greatly appreciated and has given me the confidence to push on with web design, even when I thought I just wasn't up to it.

Ian Lloyd... Your book was the first one I ever bought on building a website with HTML and CSS. The amazing thing is, I still keep coming back to it! It has helped me greatly throughout my journey.

Rachael Andrew, Jina Bolton, Brendan Sinclair, Kevin Yank, Jason Beaird and Elliot J Stocks... I've never met you guys, but by reading your work I feel like I owe you so much. I just hope that the work I do in the future both gives an example of what you were trying to achieve and can make you guys proud.

And to all of the other posters and contributors to this forum... don't give up. Keep posting, keep asking questions, and most importantly, let's remember Dan's legacy and how he always treated those he encountered with respect.

    Thanks for being patient.

    All the best,

    Tim.

I have Dan and a friend of his to thank for pointing me to Ian's book as my first web design/code book as well.

I just dropped by here after a while of absence, mainly hoping to find some of Dan´s posts, and I find this sad news...

Thank you Dan, for having been whom you have been, so friendly, so helpful, such a nice presence...

Lots of strength to his family and friends.

    Goodbye Dan, rest in peace.
