I built and now drive an all electric car..

It started life as a 1991 Pontiac Firefly Convertible, (Geo Metro in the USA). I removed all the ICE parts, and fitted a 8" Advanced DC motor, with 11 off 12V deep cycle lead acid batteries and Curtis controller. The old throttle cable just turns a 5K pot which controls the output of the Curtis.

Top speed is over the highway limit, range 35miles, charges on 110 or 220V.

That's pretty cool, nice project to get stuck into. Is it lighter or heavier than before? Those lead-acid batteries can be heavy. And have you worked out your savings, based on the cost of electricity per mile of driving vs. cost of petrol over 1 mi?

I ride a bicycle for my commuting to work needs. It's great, even in the rain (only on the way back) and about 4 times faster than the bus in this town that can't cope with even a little bit of traffic. When I need to go out of town I normally use the train.

Recently passed my driving test, and on the insurance of my friend's Citroen Xsara, which is quite a cheap way of getting use of a car! Trains in this country are so, so awful, and an absolute rip off too, I hate using them. Mostly when I'm using public transport I use national express coaches, so much cheaper and more reliable.

So that covers trains and automobiles... as for planes... does this count?

OK, I don't own it, but I did fly it...

How much does the electric car cost to drive? Are you able to measure it?

I drive a 98 Chevy Silverado... sucks lots of gas

Drive a 2008 Ford Ranger, wish I didn't have to drive though but since I live here in California and in the desert I have to drive something.

I used to fly a Blanik (not mine, of course, it belonged to the flying school I was attending at the time) Not sure that it counts though

I haven't... I keep telling me that I will do it when I have the time

You have to be very committed... they don't like it when you only one weekend and then don't go for 2 weeks

No, you tend to forget it all! You should try and commit to it, the first solo flight is where it all begins!

I'd never fly in a glider, I don't need myself sailing in the wind then I land in a forest, with the glider busted and I have blood pouring out of my head and I'm yelling, foul words.

I drive most days as cycling was taking it's toll on a shoulder injury. Occasionally I take public transport when I'm going out for drinks - but as that takes 3 modes of transport - bus, train, tram - I use it infrequently. A pity really, as it's ideal for gaining some reading time.

There's a simple solution to that... don't get low over a forest!

I love to get on my motorcycle and ride. If I have a week or just a couple of hours I can't seem to get enough of the wind, the sun, the sound's, the smells, and the bugs. Utah offers many different opportunities from the steep windy mountain roads, to the flat open desert highways, to the scenic beauty of our many national parks. The terrain is vast and varied, and the highways plentiful.

This type of flying is the less expensive... find a flier's club and do it. They will be pleased to let you ride with one of them so you can give it a try.
