if you are looking for dedicated server dont think of couple of hundred only.
we are paying for one of our site for a dedi. quite strong server 1300USD.

if you interested in linux dedicated machine, number of hosts with excellent quality are out there. theplanet , softlayer, gnax , depot and webnx could be your hosts with quality and also cheap. webnx provide really strong machines at low price.
if you are looking for cheap and not so high and also not so bad than burst can help you

Are you serious? DreamHost is way off the league of even a comparison to Rackspace I believe. They are targeting rather different audiences as well.

yes they both provide web space. So they are similar in the same way a rowboat and an ocean liner are similar.

SitePoint hasn't been down so if RackSpace has been down a lot it is probably only with one of the thousands of servers and the user of that server has a really loud voice.
