Exclamation how to strip tags in mysql using regular exp.

i have a fulltext performed on one of my tables which stores my table contents with html tags. But when i search it returns me more rows because of the same words being present in the alt tags in this content column in the table.so i want to strip of the html tags and then get my results from mysql for the entered keyword. kindly help me with it.
i tried to use a function separately but then it gave me access denied error.i also want to know and use more of regular expressions.kindly guide me on this.

if this is an important aspect of your application then you may want to consider storing a stripped version in a separate field.

i am just using it for the search purpose. Is there any other way to do without saving the stripped data in another column in that table? because if i am going to have 100 dynamic pages and i save the content wid html tags and without html tags as two separate columns in the table, what do you think is it ok? coz m not sure.
