Anyone else find itunes 9 slow?

Just curious, I'm on a Macbook Pro (late 2007 model) still running Leopard, no Snow yet. I held off upgrading to iTunes 9 for a while since it didn't seem critical. I'm kind of regretting it. I did the upgrade a few days ago but I find it's slow. Fine it plays music, but when I double click a song to play, I get the beach ball and sometimes a 3-4 second wait before the music starts playing. I find this really annoying since it didn't do that before with iTunes 8. I did some searching and seems like most people really like iTunes 9, so I'm wondering if anyone else is like me and thinks 8 was much better.

iTunes has been becoming a bloated mess for a while now, IMO. To be honest, I do not know how it is on the Mac side of things but on Windows...the thing is just awful.

I use Windows at work and I've been using Winamp for Windows since the late 90s. I never tried iTunes for Windows but I much prefer winamp over iTunes, although since I got the Mac (which was my first) I didn't mind using iTunes 8, although I'm not too happy with 9 ...

iTunes for Windows is the worst player out there. Slow and bloated like logic_earth said. Since I don't use an iPod (Creative Zen for me!), I quit using it entirely last year. I can find just as much music elsewhere, specifically Amazon. And I don't have to worry about converting the music to a format I can use.

I used to use iTunes (win) but as mentioned previously it is a bloated RAM hog. Plus it installs 5 additional programs on my comp just so I can listen to music!

I've been using foobar2000 of late and it is really all I need. It can even be made to look a little like iTunes. I have also been trying out songbird too. It's cool (kinda like iTunes) but it seems bloated/sluggish also.

I guess none of this will really help as you are a mac user. I just had to rant about iTunes for a minute.

well just to follow up on this, Apple released an update for iTunes (9.0.2) and I guess enough people complained. Since the 9.0.2 update it runs much faster (on Mac, can't speak for Windows). For Windows my preference is still Winamp.

Off topic, this will be my 1000th post on sitepoint
