new lindows computers, think it'll go? nice price point...

they will need a fantastic marketing campaign to change people from windows. i do not envy that person's job.

yeah but look at the market they are going after first, walmart shoppers. that market is only interested in price and the lower the better...

I can't help feeling though that market will be the people who like to know as little as possible -- they just want a computer which switches on and checks their email, pretty much what M$ does...Originally posted by bbolte

Well, it seems to work very fine. And Microsoft was so pi**ed off at the Lindows makers that they sued them, and wanted them to change the name of their product....
But Microsoft lost![]()
Besides, i think Lindows is a real cool name for marketing....

yeah but you still need to change people's current buying behaviour pattern even if you have a cheap product with a way cool name it isn't enough. they need to really appeal to the needs of consumers worldwide that everthing will be not only alright if they change to lindows but it will be better than windows. much the same as apple has been doing their whole life as well as at the moment with their current campaign,

well, according to that article, the new machines will run windows and linux programs. so i think it would fit the bill for lots of people looking for a windows-compatible machine. i don't see the same obstacles as making the leap to an apple machine.Originally posted by bbolte

yeah obviously not exactly the same obstacles of apple but they still need to create a need in the consumers mind for a lindows based machine. and this will be hard becaus etheir perceptions will be linux=tech=too hard=don't buy
it needs mainstream approval like the cover of time magazine before it will take off and consumers have trust in it
hope it works out on the WIMP tech and not rather go on something annoying or complex.. cause getting Linux and Windows stuff to work together isnt going to be easy and maybe it may mess up some stuf..
Peace.
Hmm...I'm looking to get a new computer...maybe I'll be the first SPer to use Lindows? If so, I may even write a review!
Consumers do not care about Windows when they buy a machine, what they care about is can I connect to the Internet and chat with my friends and send e-mail. Can my I/child play games?
Microsft's empire is not built because Windows is so great, it's because developers write their products based on the O/S. i would love to get one of those cool loking GMac's, but the Mac Office package doesn't have MS Access and I can't run the Delta Force's on it, so I'll pass.
If lindows can get developers to start making software then they have a great chance. Look at Windows CE. The Palm OS still has a foothold on this market, becuase developers have invested heavily in making software for the Palm before the other PDAs came on the market.
No one turns on their computer to look at the Windows desktop. My sister would be a good candidate for Lindows, because all she plays is Free Cell. I have a Intellistation Z Pro maxed out and when she comes over all she does is play free cell!!!!!!
