    Problem with ssl cert???

I've got a thawte cert installed on my company's site. But once in a while, every few months or so, someone says that they get a message saying that the certificate is not valid or expired/not yet valid. Of course I don't know how many people have this problem and just leave the site, but it seems pretty rare.

The last guy I spoke says his system date is correct. But that's all I could think of that could be wrong.

    Any more suggestions?

Are they omitting or adding a subdomain to the URL?

For example, the SSL certificate is issued to "www.example.com". User types "https://example.com". The SSL certificate would not be valid for this URL and the browser would say so.

Nice thought, but any non www traffic is redirected to www, and I don't have nay other subdomains.

It won't be redirected if there is a problem with the SSL certificate so that could still be a possibility. You can check the installation of the certificate at http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html

Thanks for the info. The ssl checker shows no problems.

Maybe there happens to be a link to some resource (img, script etc) that starts with http:// instead of https:// ?

hmmm yeah, Have checked that and can't find anything. That wouldn't give the error that has been described, but then I wouldn't really expect the user to differentiate between the different errors here. There are some external scripts used (tracking etc) which I guess could call some non-secure element randomly.
