    My interpretation would be:

Discussions not pertaining to questions such as "How can I make scanlines, dotted borders, and one off elements."

I would encourage discussions regarding composition, theory behind design, i.e. conveyance of atmosphere in images etc etc. As well as, of course, advanced techniques and practices whether web related or not, although that is this focal point of these forums.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

    Glen

    Edit:

    Note the forum description too:

Discuss the techniques and methods behind advanced graphics design.

Yup, you're in a hurry too I'm done

Basically, right now the MM&G area is very "basic" in structure and discussion. A lot of the larger discussions on greater issues get lost.

Not just Theory, but, as has been said, something beyond "the norm" of the average web guy.

To be perfectly honest, you may find this is the perfect feeding groudn for writing articles for SitePoint, as Nick has started to discover

    Talking

Excellent! Im sure that everyone will find this area of SP growing steadily, and seperate the drop shadow questions from any real discussion. Im not being mean, and have done a fair bit of helping out here and there in the Main design forum, but it's good to see a development for creatives on SP.

The 'Discuss the techniques and methods behind advanced graphics design' sub seems pretty apt for something I had already put together for SP on Photoshop retouching techniques...maybe in-fact an ideal thread starter, as I'm sure there is a couple of little tricks I don't know about!!

    graphical content

It's always inspiring to see designers who can create graphical elements that contain or communicate site content.

Most graphics, at best, support the content or relate to content (images or happy kids on school sites...ZZZzzzz).

At worst, graphics detract or distract from the content.

Advanced designs = content, navigation and graphics in balance (que sitar music).
