Banner creation

I was wondering what size (in pixels) should the banners be as I create them. I'm planning on creating a bunch of examples at different sizes, so what are the standard sizes these days?

I plan on doing banner exchanges, so do I have to discuss banner size with them, or can I go ahead and create some now at different lengths?

You can create banners whatever size you want however people that are members and advertisers will not want to create banners just for your network.
