    Hello,

I own a network of 5 sites related to webmasters. One of the sites is a free web host provider (http://EchoHosting.com). Till this day, we placed a small button on the bottom of all users' pages, but a couple of days ago we were suggested another interesing solution.

Instead of placing an ad on my members' pages, I could send out a small newsletter with an advertisement to them every 3 days or so.

Anyway, I decided to do that. Now the problem is finding sponsors. I can't really determine that audiencethat would view this ad but I do know that all of my members are webmasters (since they host a site on my server).

    Here's a couple of questions:

    1. What kind of services would advertise on this kind of a newsletter? I guess the web hosts are out because it's direct competition for both of us.

    2. What kind of rates could I charge for it? At my other eZine, I charge 3c/sub/issue for the top spot and 2c for the middle one.

Here I was thinking of 1.5-4c/member/issue. The rate is a bit high but since most of the members are so grateful that we provide this type of hosting, I imagine that they would gladly support us and provide our advertisers with a high-response rate..

I was also thinking of making a CPC deal with somebody. How much should I charge per click?

    Thanks in advance.
    Boris

So what, you want to send out a newsletter with JUST ads? Because 99% of people will simply trash it, if you do. IMHO, if people don't read the content, they don't read the ads either.

    Just a thought:

Why would I read an email from you if I had already read it's contents on your website?

Wouldn't you need "fresh" content for it to work? And then, all your doing is making a second webmasters mailing list, or atleast of similarity.

All right... y'all are kinda getting off the topic.

    This is our newsletter plan:

    1. Introduction
    2. Sponsor's Message
    3. Webmasters' Tip
    4. Article (taken from our network)
    5. Featured Member's Site
    6. Conclusion

Now, the point of this short newsletter is to generate the minimum amount of money needed to pay off the server. I'm doing a favor to all my users by removing ads from their site and instead offering them to support our network in a different way...

This system should work because people don't want to have ads on their site and they know that if they won't visit our sponsors/support our site, the ads will return. Simple as that...

From that view...which seems to be the right view for this situation, eveything would be ok.

I'm not sure who would advertise in it. Who currently advertises on your membership pages, they may be interested. Also, if your members are so loyal, they may not mind taking a form of short survey, so you can try to target.

.5-1.5c/user seems right. If you do get a great response from your users, then you can up the price, of course.

I don't do CPC...I have no idea. Depends on how target their ad is...

Survey is a GREAT idea... as soon as I reach 1000 members, I'll ask my members to answer a survey...

Actually, when somebody signs up, I can ask any type of question like year of birth, country, etc. What should I ask that can be useful to advertisers?

    Fixed! Thanks Richard.

Boris, I juts assumed you'd know all that sex, age stuff. I included some "extra" type stuff, rather than the obvious.

Personally since I am trying to build a general purpose site with my online magazine and getting ready to roll out the second issue soon and picking up a bi-weekly schedule, I would be interested in advertising in a newsletter like your proposing.
