If you are trying to determine which site would be better for advertising, I would suggest you base that on your potential for return on investment (ROI) cost and not how much traffic each site has. First understand the demographics of the site - what type of users and does this match the kind of prospects you are looking for. Once you determine that the site matches your market, evaluate the cost of the ad by your typical click-through rate and conversion rate. This will give you an idea of your approximate ROI and if the site is worth spending your advertising dollars on. For instance, many of the internet marketing clients I work with get more traffic using Google Adwords, but have higher ROI from Yahoo Sponsored Search. Hope this helps.

I keep my Facebook profile mostly personal, connected to people I have known or at least met.

I have just started to use a Facebook page to promote our company at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Orland...ne/13131307533 but it's too soon to see what sort of conversions I am getting. We had a Facebook Group activated but noticed when content was posted to a group, the member's wall was not updated with the new info. With a Facebook Page it is.

Up until now we have received more conversions using Linkedin than Facebook... but then again we post almost daily news articles to many Linkedin groups which increases traffic to our site and not just to my Linkedin profile.

Never really understood the Facebook Phenom.

You can't sell to those that aren't looking to buy.

Yea, you'll have traffic from your friends....but does your friends have money and need web solutions?

To me....Social Networking is to make friends and keep in touch with old ones ... in my case... meet hot girls that I couldn't meet anywhere else because I'm too damn busy designing and coding. Plus, lots of hot chicks have their guards up at the clubs...so why not get them when they are most vulnerable...browsing the internet in their bedrooms

We can't compare facebook and linkedin. Though the concept is same(social networking) but linkedin is only for professionals and they can share their expertise with each other. If you are a marketing expert and has a website which provides marketing tips than linkedin is a very good place where you can share tips and promote your website otherwise no chance. On the other hand, facebook is open for all.

Facebook is far different from LinkedIn. From the features to the use and traffic ranking. I used LinkedIn to post my professional network while for Facebook, I got a personal account for playing games, get connected to friends and colleagues and post my updates on my blog. Now, which of them provide great traffic? Of course it will be Facebook.

Both Facebook and Linkedin [and other similar sites] play their part if used intelligently. They are there to facilitate networking, AFAIK networking is lifeblood of business [besides a steady cash flow ]

IMHO Ultimately "conversions" will only happen when quality traffic arrives on your site. This again depends on having a profile of an "ideal client" in mind before hand [eg. profession, demographics, type of service offered, age etc etc].

I am a facebook enthusiast. I have been a linked in member for a while now but I am getting a lot of soliciting emails that really just put me off
