    Akismet Plugin -- WordPress

    Hi All,
Akismet plugin in wordpress is very popular to block spam comments. It become more useful when you face hundreds of spam comments daily/weekly.
Akismet needs API keys to enable it in the blogs!!!
And the API keys are available only at free wordpress blogs!!!

    My question is that,
    1. How to enable Aksimet in a paid wordpress blog?

    2. If there is an alternative to Akismet?

    Many thanks

All you need to do to get an Akismet API key is register. Do you have a problem with that?

There are other anti-SPAM plugins, eg. bad behaviour, spam karma ....

There are a lot of other options for antispam, however, why would you not use Akismet? It's free, and it only takes 2 minutes to get the API key. It probably has the biggest backend DB, though that is just a guess on my part.

Anyways, I usually set my blogs to automatically hold anything with URLs posted in it, which takes care of most of the spam.

Akismet can be activated using wordpress API key from your wordpress.com account. If you don't have wordpress.com account, you can have it for free to activate your hosted akismet.

Other than this one, you can also use "Peter's Random Anti-Spam" plugin. This can also filter spam messages as it gives random captcha to let people type it in and block robots and automated software to give spam comments.

    This can ensure human comments.

I should also mention that if you have a WordPress blog, the same API key is used for the Stats plugin, also by Automattic. True, there are other ways to get your blog stats, but it's something to consider.

I don't know what you mean by "only at free wordpress blogs". If you mean only those hosted at wordpress.com, this isn't correct. I have a WordPress blog on a paid host and the API key, and the plugins, work fine.

Thanks for the kind help. I registered for an account and used that API key. Now Aksimet is working fine.
