How to get chinese characters to work in IE?

I have added Google translate to a website. it works well except for Chinese characters in IE... They are shown as square blocks...

Do you think people in china who have the Chinese language pack installed on their computers (i assume this is how it works) will be able to read it?

Or is there some code I need to add to my html to get it working?

You got it right, the reason the characters show up as square blocks is because the character isn't recognised as there is no installed language pack to support it, out of interest have you tried installing the language packs for whatever OS you are using because a chinese language pack can be installed onto XP and Vista (yes you can use English but still have other language packs installed).
