Layout help in IE - background-position (I think)

I didn't want to put it in the title 'cause everyone would stay away, but it's a MySpace layout.

I promised a friend I'd turn a design for their band into a working layout and I'm having a headache from the damn thing.

    Here's the layout thus far.

It looks like it should look only in Firefox, but not in IE 6, 7, 8 (which is his main target audience) and Safari 3 has the same layout problem (this browser is not important, just for the sake of preview).

You'll probably need Firebug or something to see the code, it's a bunch of ugly styles nested inside of hunderds of MySpace table tags. Sorry for the messy code but it's the only way of designing around MySpace.

So, why does it work in Firefox and not in IE 6, 7, 8 (and Safari 3)?
    Here are the screenshots:
    Firefox
    Safari 3 / Internet Explorer

What I've discovered is - when I remove the .bg div it works, but I need that for the upper bg.

Thanks in advance, I'll owe you big if you can pinpoint the problem or at least point me in the right direction.

Wrong URL, I'm an idiot. There's no edit button?

    Here it is, again.

Hi, this may not fully be the cause but you are in quirks mode. You dn't have a doctype

    Add this before <html>
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
And there is no edit button because the time was reduced to stop spam.

No way to edit myspace HTML, I can only add code on some places in the middle of the page, so DOCTYPE declaration is out of the question, unfortunately.

Actually I don't think it's because of the quirks mode trigger. I've updated the page with the DOCTYPE declaration so you can see it's not that.

    Thanks for your time.
