Unhappy Please help me with this hardware issue!

I am having a desktop with ASUS motherboard, samsung monitor and AMD processor.Whenever i am switching it on the red light of the hard disk(which usually blinks when the hard disk is busy) is glowing continously but the green light of the "Power On" button is not coming on, the result is there is no display in the monitor. But there is power in the motherboard and cooler fans of the processor and cabinet are working fine.I have checked the monitor,RAM its working fine. Some times the computer turns on but others it not switching on.Whats the problem and how can i sort it out?

Does the computer POST, or do you see nothing at all on the monitor?
Disconnect everything non-essential (which will leave you with: mainboard, PSU, CPU, RAM, monitor and keyboard) and try to boot, if it POSTs, add things back one at a time until it fails. If it doesn't boot, the mainboard or PSU are highly suspect.

It does not sound like a bad hard drive, when hard disks go bad the machine passes the POST screen which provides the BIOS, memory check and IRQ values before it tries to read the hard disk, it sounds to me if nothing is occuring it could either be a PSU, motherboard or GPU issue.

Try checking the BIOS if it loads, if it isn't I guess you have to change your motherboard. Also check the harddisks, RAM, and processors if it works in other PCs including your video card if you have one.
