Where is the unsubscribe button to thread ?

you mean here at SP i am assuming, check the box(s) to the right of the thread(s) you want to unsubscribe from and then select "delete subscription" from the drop down (at the bottom) and click the "go" button.

I must have a QI of 1 because I see checkbox but no "delete subscription"

there is a drop down menu below the list of threads on the right below the check boxes.
