Client has GoDaddy. Reasons for having them switch...

I'm a big fan of cPanel, and I hear horror stories about GoDaddy.

I have a basic site to build, maybe out of PHP ... but probably just XHTML/CSS. A few contact forms, etc.

I know that I will have a number of domains to forward as well.

I want to see what other issues people have had and try to make a good argument as to why they should switch.

    Any help is appreciated.

My own monitoring of a Godaddy account shows applications running 2-3 times slower than some of their direct competitors. At times the server becomes overloaded and performance takes a further hit, even leading to applications becoming unresponsive. Uptime isn't the best either.

GoDaddy run a custom version of Plesk (modified to remove a lot of the functionality).

They have their databases on different servers from the sites which makes database access slower.

They have blocks in place that prevent some standard code (eg. Paypal IPN scripts) from working unless you add extra code to work around the block.

They are in the domain registrar business and so hosting is just a side business for them so you will never get the level of support that you would get from someone whose business is hosting.

^ agree with that, I'm working on a site hosted at godaddy at the moment and it's excruciatingly slow. Sometimes things just grind to a halt and I'm waiting 1-2 minutes for a page to load.

If you like what they offer and know the reviews I believe you need to do another search. Actually they are very good for the domain name registration, but according to the reviews their paid services still poor

Personally from personal experience I'd suggest you avoid GoDaddy unless it's just a simple hobby site that isn't very important.

Not sure about hosting php websites with goDaddy.
But i heard a lot of users negative reviews about goDaddy Windows hosting plan that do not provide Full Trust Level for ASP.NET hosting and applications.
Which is a great headache for ASP.NET webmasters and developers.
    Cheers!
