How Do I setup a Multiple Monitor Computer?

I would like to setup three or four monitors on my computer. I want the screens to have individual properties but also be connected in a panoramic fashion. Can I add more video cards or should I get a ready made unit that supports several monitors? If so, where's a good place to look for one?

With two different video cards it is possible to set up two monitors to work independently. For more than two monitirs (and the preferred option for two monitors) is to use a video card that has the support for the required number of monitors built in. The operating system itself can't configure more than two so that has to be handled by the processing within the card itself.

If it is a 16 video card then it can be used to set up 16 monitors. There is no limit to the number of monitors you can set up provided you get a card that supports them. You are only limited to two monitors if you are using separate video cards for each since the computer will support a maximum of two video cards.

I know cards supporting up to 16 monitors exist. I don't know how much higher than that it goes.
