Do you lose your patience easily during work?

I've noticed that increasingly I'm getting irritated with people around the office etc whenever I have to work on php / css / other development work. Only really happens if I need to concentrate on something or have something I want to get finished quickly.

Whenever I need to get on with development work usually I would put earphones in, put some decent music on and start working on whatever - but the constant chatting / interruptions often causes me to lose patience easily with others around me.

Does anyone else suffer from this?!!

If it is increasingly constant and you can't get any work done, then I would lose my cool as well.

But being able to keep your cool and figure out a solution is what separates us from animals

Listen to some music (in earphones, not out loud).

    Definitely helps!

Yeah, just use music so you don't have to listen to other people (as long as the boss doesn't mind that you listen to music while you work).

Heck, it makes me more productive!

For every 5 hours it takes me to do something without music, it'd take me 3 with. Big difference!

    (Probably because of less distractions!)

If I'm trying to read or get something done and someone interupts me I lose concentration and get annoyed. This had led to me using the computer at like 1am - 3am in the morning just so I don't get bothered.

As much as possible I always do things that will make me cool... Unless, when someone intentionally makes my day bad.

Rarely, since I network for a living with DubLi, and it really doesn't pay to lose my patience when dealing with people. On the whole, it's a gas since I'm meeting people and showing them opportunities, and it's very rare to talk to people who make me want to tear my hair out!!!

Like DevAngel, though, my temper frays rather quickly when my internet isn't up to scratch. Those internet Gods are fickle, aren't they!?

I don't often get angry, I do get stressed and anxious quite easily and that tends to make me lose my mind rather than my patience

Constant interruptions (whether through people, your computer failing, email/IM alerts, etc) when you need a solid block of time to work should make anyone angry.

If it's something mindless, nothing really bothers me, but when I have to concentrate and figure something out, most noises, it can even be people laughing, will bother me.

Usually I just decide to punch my computer in the head and walk away.

But one time I was so pissed, I ended up throwing my laptop into the pool.

When I was working in an office, I remember that me too I had to use headset to listen to music, just to lessen the noise around me. But ideally I'd like silence in order to concentrate when coding, but my only option was to put music loud enough to cover the phones and chatting..
This was really uncool, and I'm glad I don't work with other people around anymore!

No..we should learn to control our moods.
If we let this affect us at work, surely productivity will fall.

Work that requires concentration such as programming, should not be put in a high noise environment. Me, I was in an open space office with salesmen talking on the phone, chatting between themselves, also nearby was the secretary/receptionist with phone ringing often, etc.
So headset with music wasn't a choice, but a must, but still the music is not optimal for concentration!

All the time... I'm just not cut out to work for 'the man' which is part of my problem

Although, I don't get overly aggressive or anything, just gets me down and I sometimes perhaps mutter unspeakable curses under my breath

    rock on
