Perl scripts secure? Member areas / protecting cgi scripts

    Hi

I ask this because I'm setting up a members area on my site and know very little about PHP, except Perl does what I want
I've been along to cgi-resourse.com and looked at many password protection scripts and have come to the conclusion that a script called Protect.pl best suits my needs. http://www.maze.se/freeware/
Can anyone tell me if by using such a script a site will be secure, so that non member will not be able to access my members area?
If not what precautions can I take to make it a bit more bullet proof bearing in mind I can't programme.

I've also read somewhere you can password protect cgi scripts....?

    Advice please
    Thanks
    sanc

As long as you CHMOD the Perl script correctly so the proper groups have the proper permissions, you should be okay. Like most things, it varies from script to script. But you can password-protect directories using .htaccess: http://www.cgiextremes.com/extras/Ti.../htaccess.html
