I will be developing and hosting a site for a client, which we hope to build into an online community and that will attract advertisers. I will be instructing my client to enable independent management and maintenance of portions of the site, but I will probably be doing some of the maintenance for them on an hourly basis. I will also be setting up a banner ad rotation program for them and will be doing the banner insertions and managing program.
When developing a site such as this for a client, is it typical for the webmaster to get a share of the advertising revenue? What percentage is considered fair and appropriate for the website developer/webmaster? Is it typical to even negotiate such a share, or should I be looking for other types of compensation? What is a typical scenario as far as what the webmaster should charge to set-up and manage the ad campaigns?
