Opting out of a mailing list

I am building a mailing list management module right now, and would like some opinions about this.

Like a good netcitizen, I am addinga link to the bottom of every email that takes the person to an opt-out page. SO here is my question:

How bad is it to ask them to re-enter their email address in the form they are presented with? I know how to customize it so it is automatic, but it means sending a unique email to each member, and losing some nice efficiencies in terms of both processing and being able to use the BCC: feature to batch data into sendmail.

So from a user point of view is it unforgivable, mildly annoying, or not worth worrying about? BTW, if they are MEMBERS, and not just list subscribers, they will be recognized by their login cookie so this does not apply at all. Should I worry about a minor inconvenience for people who are leaving the list anyway?

I wouldnt worry about it, the only thing people care about is that they can a) leave the list and b) that its easy to get off the list. Entering in an email address isnt the most painstaking of tasks to accomplish.

Okay. Sometimes the most silly problems seem the largest.

That just saved me several hours of coding and testing.

I wonder how I cancel a poll ? Maybe if I delete the whole thread ?

It is a good idea in theory.

However, in my experience, a large number of people will try to unsubscribe just by replying with a blank email.

    It will get highly frustrating.
