cloud hosting

i am building a site that is about 25mb with a DAMS system of 600mb..we are looking at about 1500 hits per day and need about 25 gig bandwidth per month.
i dont want to worry to much with server config and want to beable to focus on development and seo. want affordable but quality? i have been looking at rackspace cloud hosting and was hoping someone can give me some insight as to whether they think this is a good idea (maybe previous experience with cloud hosting)

The main reasons you'd choose cloud hosting are scalability and reliability (by having multiple redundancy across a cloud), but most vendors of simplified cloud solutions (as opposed to e.g the amazon stack where you have to build, configure and maintain on your own) seem to have a lot of teething issues when you look behind the hype. If you have a look at their status page, Rackspace cloud hosting seems to have issues pretty much every day: http://status.mosso.com/

i appreciate the input. do you have any recommendations on the specs i gave and remembering i do not want to do any server config. and the host should be UK based if possible.

I believe you need to get started with simple shared web hosting account. Ypu do not need cloud solution

Hi,

Those requirements don't really sound all that taxing to be honest - any decent provider that isn't massively overselling their services should be able to cope with that. I'd also suggest finding a host that can help you grow, so if you do eventually outgrow shared hosting they've got other options available to you and can help you move to them, not just say, "Tough, you're on your own".

Thanks EastCoast for posting the mosso status link. I have been looking into them for a client project and based on what I saw there I think I will stay far away. They seem to be having problems each day.

Very interesting indeed... If you are wanting to go with a cloud I have used the SoftLayer cloud for some time for some development projects and I've had 0 issues
