I have a history question.
I remember the time where geocities only asked it's members to place a small GIF with a geocities logo on their site as a return for a free service.
Where did geocities got the money to mantain such a network?

The main way is by sending its members advertisements via e-mail.

And anybody who visits the site will be able to visit their advertisers via banners.

Also, it's part of Yahoo, and they like to throw a bit of money at it now and again ;-)
