    W3C Link checker status 403

    Hi

I have run my web pages url www.maggie-rose-art.co.uk thro' W3C link checker which has come up with : Line 8 http://www.maggie-rose-art.co.uk/cgi-bin/ The link is forbidden. Usual suspects:a missing index.html or Overview.html, or a missing ACL.

Would be grateful if someone could explain and suggest a solution.

    Thanks, Regards Monty

It suggests you have no page on that url, and you have not so the server's auto index is linking to the root subfolders whereof the cgi-bin is access forbidden.

Your index page seems to be in the "timelessart" folder.

    Hi
I take your point that index.html is in timelessart folder in Coreftp. As I did not seem able to delete timelssart I decided to uninstall Coreftp and install Filezilla. I seem to have uploaded my files successfully but they do not appear on the Web.Bit disappointing as I could see them initially but I expect I'll learn one day!

    Hope you can untangle this

    Hi again

Thought I would put the pages thr'o the W3C Link Checker again which came up with the following:-

    www.maggie-rose-art.co.uk
    " " " " ?C=D;O=A
    " " " " ?C=D;O=D
    " " " " ?C=M;O=A
    " " " " ?C=M;O=D
    " " " " ?C=S;O=A
    " " " " ?C=S;O=D
    " " " " ?C=N;O=A
    " " " " ?C=N;O=D
I guess this must be significant.Would be most grateful if you could have a look. Regards Monty

The upload directory should be your "maggie-rose-art.co.uk " folder in your account area. That folder is empty, so perhaps you have uploaded the files outside that public folder. The cgi-bin folder is seemingly not there either.

If the files are in the public folder but not visible on the web I think you need to contact your host to check the settings.

As Erik said, you can't load your files into a cgi-bin folder. This folder is only created to upload your cgi (it could be something like a file or script that connects the page with a database to store personal information)

That folder has executable rights only. That is, it can only excute programs or the scripts ketp there, but files can't be read or seen (that's why you get that error).

Regular files should be in the main folder. Depending on your hosting company, that folder will have the name of your domain "maggie-rose-art.co.uk" or, under your domain, a folder called httpdocs
