Hi, Datis. I don't have a degree in design or development. But I definitely wish I did! I would encourage you to stay in school by all means.

I have a few certifications. But there is no substitute for formal education (other than real world experience).

Pretty much every university in the USA offers a web design or development course of study. I don't have any 1 link to give you. I'm not sure about online courses but I do believe they have them somewhere (I just don't know where).

It certainly wouldn't hurt to undertake a course in web design/development.

I don't know of any specific courses, however Open Universities Australia have some web design subjects.

The Opera Web Stands Curriculum is really worth a look in your own time. I've found it really useful and it's completely free!

I personally wouldn't take a degree in web design, educational institutions are well known for teaching out of date information because it takes so long for new standards to be approved and reach the classroom. You would be much better off either doing something like Computer Science, an explicit certificate like CIW or a degree in a non-direct related course like graphic design.

I agree. I've been studying some Computer Science subjects and my understanding of web development concepts has benefited enormously.
