    Lightweight anti-virus

    Hi,

Currently I'm using AVG Security Suite. Really though, I don't think I need as much protection as it's giving me. I don't visit 'dodgy' sites and I am savvy enough to know when something I am viewing or being sent is potentially dodgy. Plus, AVG takes awhile to load on my laptop, which is frustrating when I'm booting up.

So does anyone have any advice for a fast, lightweight security program that starts up quickly and gives adequate protection? It would be nice if it's free as well

    Thanks.

There is Panda cloud anti virus, I've been testing it on one of my comps, it seems to run real light and is free but I'm not totally sure on it yet, it seems to work and all but I'm scared of the cloud.

I use Avira and its pretty lightweight on resources, I have heard Avast! is pretty good in terms of resource consumption too

I'm a huge fan of cloud based applications so I will definitely be uninstalling AVG for now and trying this. Thanks

edit: In beta? Hmmm... Oh well. Still going to try it. AVG just bugs me these days,..

Avast certainly seems lighter on system resources than AVG from my experience, so another vote for them here

Well, you can try a-squared Anti Malware. There's a free version but has no real time protection. It's very light on the computer.

I'll second Avast. I even use it on my eeePc and it doesn't bog down the system at all.

I've never used Avast and so I can't comment on it, but I'm very surprised to hear that AVG is a system hog. I use it on my 3 year old laptop and it uses very little resources. Perhaps you should turn off some of AVG's features.

Happy with Panda Cloud Anti virus, even if it is in beta. Did a full system scan after downloading and it picked up a trojan that AVG never found.
