    Grabbing youtube FLV

    Hi guys,

I haven't been developing YouTube tools for a while and was wondering if some of you who are still up to date could give me a hand.

Given a YouTube vidId, I want to get the location or some way to download the FLV file.

    Would appreciate any help! Thanks!

If you don't know how to code this I wouldn't suggest getting into it.

I personally run a very popular YouTube conversion tool and YouTube are changing a lot of things weekly, updates are needed to be made daily and a lot of work is involved to get it going.

Well, I have been out of the YouTube loop lately so I don't know exactly how their system works off hand without doing some snooping. Which is why I posted here.

Honestly, it's not rocket science so I doubt its so complicated that I "shouldn't get into it". I just need some direction on how they are redirecting their FLV source, etc.

Hey I've worked with the API for one of my sites but I don't recall them ever serving the FLV file. I'll have another look at it though.

I created a library to parse and retrieve the FLV sources a while back but I am sure that youtube has beefed up their security since then.

From some prelim. research I've done it seems like youtube now blocks all cross-domain calls. Some people seem to be suggesting the use of a flash file as a proxy (thus going through client/user ip). I haven't tried this yet but will give it a go later today.

All working! Used a http sniffer to break down the protocol and hardest part is retrieving the token value. Thanks for the help guys.
