Advice needed on multiple large photo upload

I always seem to have the problem with a standard form submitted with an image upload field that it times out. I know all about changing the max upload and whatnot, but it seems if I don't use some sort of ajax or flash based connection or something similar to hold the servers connection and report back to the browser, it never works well, especially with multiple uploads.

My question is, what is the best image upload method to implement into, for example, a photographers website so they can push many images at once (INTO A DYNAMIC DIRECTORY THOUGH), or at least let me note it in the database somehow so each clients images are sorted to their account....

ideas on doing this? (the upload, as well as making images uploaded point to a certain "client")

Look at Telerik's controls, which provide an upload control that can do its work without timing out the page and provides nice-looking feedback on the upload's progress.
