I'm looking for a remotely hosted auction service; does anyone know any good ones? Free is a bonus but I am interested in paid ones.

I found www.remoteauctions.com and www.bidland.com already so does anyone have any experience with them?

    Auctions

I have always been a bit put off by running an auction site.
Unless you get millions of hits a year is the hassle really worth it?

Actually Nicky they can be used well in other places...but I don't think competing with eBay is a good idea.

I have a friend who would use an auction script (Auction-It, I believe) written in Perl to sell some baseball cards/memoribilia to raise some money for charity each year...

Yes that is a good idea, but that is a specialised field really isn't it? Like you say - a general auction site will have to face a lot of competition from the big bys.

I am currently using remoteauctions on my site. The only thing I do not like about it is the amount of advertisements but it is free and that it does not list items on the main menu that are up for auction. You have to click on the categories in order to see if there are items up for bid. This makes it look like there is nothing up for auction which discourages people from using the service.

It was quite simple to set up and what I did like about it is that you can add your own background etc.. so that it looks like it is part of your site.

I've had it up for about a month now and I'm starting to list some of my surplus inventory.

Three Sisters is the dogs! we don't get to go there much as it's three hours away but it's such a good circuit, especially the valley circuit which they use for national and international stuff
