When an external SATA hard drive is connected to a PC via an eSATA connection, will Windows see it as an internal or external hard drive?

yes, windows knows that the attached hard drives are internal or external. When you connect the external hard drive to the computer, you will see the icon in the task bar near the clock titling "Safely Remove HardWare", that means windows detects it as external.
