Arrow mousewheel useless in flash ??

    Hi,

I flipped through a few flash books, checked a few websites, and it appears that the mousewheel is useless in the flash scrollable fields. Is that right ?? That sounds really awkward to me...

There's a LOT of usability features that Flash is not capable (or just doesn't) of using. That one is fairly minor compared to the other ones.

Huh. I m thinking of developing a full flash web app to replace the current HTML/JavaScript one. You seem to know what you are talking about: can you list a few of these usability failures real quick? That would greatly help me make a decision.

    Thanks

-= You currently cannot use the browsers back and forward buttons to navigate a Flash movie.

-= You can TAB into a Flash movie but you cannot TAB out of it.

-= You can't bookmark a scene inside a Flash movie.

Note that some of these issues have been fixed (from what I understand) in Flash MX.

Minus your right. I create scroll bars and for some reason Flash doesn't know how to use them. I haven't figured out a way to do so yet but I heard you can.

    #1 = Still nope
#2 = You can now tab out
#3 = You will never be able to bookmark a scene cuz Flash compresses everything.

Actually you can use the back and forward browser buttons in MX, read the manual again.

It is possible to use the mouse wheel to scroll contents in Flash However it requires IE6.

http://www.the1stmovement.com/ Has an example under Play, 3rd or 4th experiment, heres a link to the source:

The Back Button Named Anchors thing in MX is buggy at the best of times. Seems it has Issues with certain combinations of OS, IE and Flash 6 Player. Same files work on some comps and not on others etc.

Would be nice to see the Mouse Wheel working in Flash

    great script, thanks!

any idea how to reset the rate at which the scroll occurs?

the js file, as follows, only works when set to 120/-120...same with the flash action script

    can it not be done?

*edit* (how do you get scripts to show up in the post?)

of course the implementation of the back and forward buttons isn't the same in all browsers anyway... so it isn't just flash that has the probs, and flash does work in the most common ones which is a good start
