    Tour de France

Does anyone know how the overall standing in Tour de France is calculated?

I am bit puzzled by that Armstrong has been in position no. 3 for many days, with the time +00:08. I expect that means that he is 8 seconds behind the leader. But why is this value the same day after day? What am I missing ;-(

Everyone who passes the finish line in a group gets the same time, its irrelevant whether they are the first or the last ones of that group. There needs to be a reasonable gap between them before they get a different time.

So if the guy with the yellow jersey crosses the finish line as the first one, and armstrong crosses the line as the 101th person of that same group, he is still given the same time.

But that 8 second gap won't last forever, especially the last day before Paris is going to be great. Having a finish on the top of the Mont Ventoux. I'm pretty sure the winner of the Tour de France will be decided on that climb.
