How many domains do you own?

    Hi All

New to this site. And I'm a IT contractor on holidays (aka unemployed).
'Playing' with ruby, rails and de net while I got the time.

So this is my first post and question. How many domains do you own?.

    I've got 15 atm;
7 .com plus 6 of their .org shadows.
    Actively working on two atm.

    Cheers,

    Gnoll110

I currently have (technically speaking) 2 domains which are unique, the rest are simply preserved extensions

I'm at somewhere around 110. About half of those are pointing to affiliate programs. Half of the remainder point to my own products. The other half point to individual websites.

But, I talked with a guy that has over 5,000 domain names a few weeks ago. There's a whole business out there for buying domain names and gaining traffic from people typing in those domains where a website doesn't even exist. It's called domain arbitrage. They even have conferences for this method of making money on the web. So, don't measure your value of web involvement by the number of domain names you own. Guess that's my point.

I own a bit over 20 domains, but some are the .net and .org of a .com address.

I have 9 or so, can't really recall. Some I don't use, some I think do have potential if I take the time to develop them.

I had around 12 but let some of them expire as I saw no use in them.
Now I have around 8 and am planning on using at least four.

You can park unused domains in google adsense account, it will pay much more than other domain parking program like sedo , parked ,etc .

Stephen's 'only' is informative. By using 'only', it give some idea of what games he is not playing.

All depends on what particular game you're playing.

Games that involve generation amounts of high quality content mean any individual can only run a few site.

At the other end of the scale, if you're a pure domain trader. You need a lot of domains to be able a make something out of a the small percentage that get traded in any give month.

In the middle is lerxtjr. He is playing at least two games. In the first, he's acting as a lead sources for other content providers (using affiliate programs). In the second game, he is a content provider, likely running his own affiliate programs. I can't tell what game he is playing with the last 25% of his domains.

    Cheers,

    Gnoll110

Hey, what happened to the poll close date.

It's now 'This poll will close on Aug 7, 2009 at 21:08'

I set it to late June 2010. Trying to push this towards being an annual poll. I figure a year long poll is not too long (thus making the sample to old to be useful) and not too short (giving it enough time to build a meaningful sample size). Seem to remember (from High School maths) that you need at least 30 in a sample to be meaningful.

Can I please get it end date changed!!!

    Cheers,

    Gnoll110

I suppose you need to contact the administrators on this board and ask for the explanations or some suggestions how that can be done.

I have 144 domains, mainly dot info domain names. I pay $0.79 the first year at godaddy. If it brings me more than $10 in a year I renew it, otherwise I cancel it. I also may take a dot com domain name if the dot info one is particularly successfull.
