What are your thoughts on the Child Online Protection Policy ACT for the USA? Have you done one? Do you know what i'm talking about?

See http://www.cme.org/ for more information about it. Then come back and post your thoughts and comment.

I bring this topic up because of a recent upgrade to UBB 5.45b. Where they have the COPP option and allow you to add it to the forums.

To see it in action go to http://www.computermoles.com/cgi-bin...l/Ultimate.cgi

Then click on register and pretend you are 13 years old....

If you actually "accidently" register as a 13 year old please let me know.

The COPP is a violation of our rights. It is basically government stereotyping all people under 13 as immature and not self-dependant. I can protect myself perfectly well, thank you, Bill.

Also, with such a stupid acronym (I also thought that a police officer being called a 'cop' was like calling an airline attendant a 'stewardess') it will be made fun of on the cover of the New Yorker, I'll bet.

If only the government would step back and STOP making restrictions then there would be no need for restrictions at all, i.e. Rules are meant to be broken.

    d3v,
Good point and i agree. but the idea is for those 13 and under. 13 is just a cut off age (teenager) and nothing more. i think it's more for younger people et al. and i'm sure there is a small % of 13ish people that can't control their borwseing as well as those of you on this forum. But then again those of you in this forum aren't your average 13ish people....

Think of it this way as well. IN the U.S. the age of Majority is 18 in most states, 21 in others. They could have made it 18 or the age of Majority which evers comes first. That is the age that is legally established when you can make decisions for yourself and have legally protected rights until then you have parents who can vouch for you and you have parentally protected rights.

I think the law is a good law because it has the potential to protect kids from harm. Most 13 year olds are not creating websites but are trading pokemon cards and playing Nintendo. The problems will come in enforcing it.
