    Wink Everyone's favourite Distribution

    Hi,

I'd like to know everyone's favourite Linux distribution. Is there one that anyone like in particular?

Is there any distribution taht anyone might recommend for a webserver?

Which ones are easier to use? I'm a n00b.... :P

    Thanks!

redhat is the most widely used distro for webservers, but if you are looking for stability and security freebsd is great.

Mandrake is really easy to setup..

I've installed redhat before... it totally froze the first time round about 30mins into the install!!! and I had to start again... went smoothly after that

I use RedHat on my desktop and my laptop. It's a really good distro, and the install is the easiest around.

OpenBSD's and FreeBSD's installers aren't very difficult. If there are any problems that pop up, their websites have good docs.

This was about Linux distributions, so I didn't mention them. But if you're open-minded, Stryderjzw, you might want to consider OpenBSD or FreeBSD for a webserver. I use OpenBSD myself and it is great for webserving.

Many people thinks that Linux is easier to use, and most are afraid to even try *BSD, but I find that FreeBSD is among the easiest to use. Its ports system is also great, making it easy to update your applications. Its system startup script is also very nice.

Upgrading the operating system (not just the kernel, but also all the *base* tools such as ssh, shell and other binaries) is very easy to do.

As for stabililty BSD is also very good. OpenBSD is perhaps one of the most secure operating systems out there, and I find FreeBSD's security is not lacking.

I would recommend FreeBSD because it's stable and at the same time easy to use, if not easier than linux.

I am sorry if I am a little bit off from your original question, but as qslack said, you might consider BSD as well. The docs are great too.
