Strange, northern light is completely unattached, yet they are still very popular.

I loved that chart! Thanks freakysid.

That's great, I tried making my own one time, but this is much better, great post.

Anotyher thing about that chart is that it doesn't mention Teoma. I know there is some relationship to Ask and if my memory is any good Ask (Jeeves) got gobbled up by someone else recently. So if someone can fill us in on that area that would be swell
Edit:
To answer my own post, direct hit == teoma

Good chart, even with the missing data. The Teoma/AskJeeves connection is the most obvious oversight, but would also add that Excite gets results fed to it from a lot of other services other than Looksmart...

In addition, I believe the line from Inktomi to AOL needs to be droped, while A line from Google to AOL needs to be added.
Also, I think Go is gone?
Makes me want to rethink not paying the Overture pimp...
Can you list in more than 1 category in DMOZ??
Would also be fun to add a sidebar showing what it takes to get listed in each one. Maybe, Ill add this to it and post it at my site.
Also shows why it's not important to pay any company to list you in 1000+ different SE's. Every major player is in that chart.

Yes, I believe that you can be in more than one category on DMOZ.
DirectHit is dead, HotBot can no longer be sumbitted to, LookSmart owns Wisenut, AOL has results from Google, and AskJeeves owns Teoma.
Take a look at http://www.bruceclay.com and his search engine chart.

that is a great site
interesting chart![]()

That chart's even more excellent!![]()

JUst needs Google to point to AOL!
The chart definitely needs to be updated a bit. WebCrawler is dead, an arrow between AOL and Google, arrows from Overture to Excite, etc.
Bruce is probably waiting for the announcement about whether or not Yahoo is going to continue with Google.

Can you list in more than 1 category in DMOZ??
Two listings is all you're allowed. If more listings are applicable (which is extremely, extremely rare), then DMOZ editors will handle it from their end.
The multiple listing rule for DMOZ means that you may submit once to a Topical (Arts, Business, Computers, etc.) Category and once to a Regional Category.
If you have a storefront (referred to as a "bricks and mortar" location) then you should submit your site to the most specific location in Regional.
Not state level or not even county level, but the locality level.
Since having hundreds of sites listed at the main level is frustrating for end users, DMOZ has broken things down into subcategories, so find the one called Business and Economy and check to see if it has additional subcategories.
If there is a Business and Economy/Shopping subcategory, that's where you should submit. Some major cities have Business and Economy/Shopping broken down even further, but these tend to be exceptions to the rule.
The further down the category you submit your site, the larger the number of editors who will have access to it, thus the better and faster your chances of getting listed become.
