    Question Version control advice?

I am thinking of using CVS for my web dev but I have a few problems.

CVS isn't the solution to things like user uploaded files. I want to be able to separate my code from data in such a way that they are independent but still compatible. What if my file schema (is that the right terminology?) changes and my application breaks? What is the way around this problem?

The same goes with my MySQL db. I make changes to it occasionally and I want to know if writing some sort of patching code is the only way to solve the version differences?

If anyone have any advice on this sort of problem, or could point me in the right direction I would be really grateful.

    Cheers!

One advice: use SVN instead of CVS as it supersedes CVS.
